DDL 25 in review

Gala/awards
DDL 25 celebrated its 25th anniversary with a Silver Julbilee Celebration, starting off with champagne and pictures with Santa Claus and then transitioning to the conference center’s Cromdale Hall, where attendees donned blinking Santa hats and dined on Scottish specialties. Entertainment included bag pipes, a Robert Burns impersonator performing the “Ode to a Haggis,” showgirls, and a Frank Sinatra-style crooner, followed by a dance party.

During the dinner, organizers announced the winners of the conference prizes, who were:

The Pat Burnell Award
Abhinav Kumar, King’s College London
“Inhaled Nanoparticles Develop a Complex Protein Corona of Biological Importance”

Best academic poster
Irene Parisini, University of Hertfordshire
“Patient-Centred Performance Testing of a Dry Powder Spacer: A Pilot Study Using Inhalation Profiles from Healthy Volunteers to Assess Drug Delivery Performance”

Best industrial poster
Helen Lucke, Covance
“Use of “Smartphone” Technology to Characterise and Aid Development of a Standardised Shake for the In Vitro Analysis of MDIs”

The next DDL meeting will take place December 9-11, 2015 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. The Aerosol Society, which runs DDL, is also co-sponsoring an upcoming meeting on Bioequivalence of Orally Inhaled Drug Products: Establishing the Scientific Basis for Regulatory Acceptance of In Vitro Strategies with the APS Inhalation Focus Group in March 2015.
