CDMO Bespak, which recently said that it had partnered with Upperton to offer nasal drug/device development and manufacturing and launched a new soft mist intranasal delivery device, has announced that it will now offer access to a dry powder nasal device under a memorandum of understanding with Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories (SNBL). According to the announcement, Bespak is currently negotiating with SNBL to definitively acquire exclusive rights to the nasal DPI, which it is calling the Air Pump Unit Dose Intranasal Powder device.
SNBL’s device is used for delivery of its subsidiary Satsuma’s Atzumi intranasal dry powder dihydroergotamine, which was approved by the FDA for the treatment of migraine in 2025. Bespak notes that the single-use device consists of a nozzle that contains the drug attached to a simple air pump, making it easy to carry and to use. SNBL recently announced that it is still looking for a partner to commercialize Atzumi in the US.
Bespak CEO Chris Hirst commented, “Nasal drug delivery is entering an exciting new era, with developers looking for solutions that can deliver next-generation therapies effectively while also meeting patients’ needs for greater convenience and ease of use. Our agreement with SNBL strengthens Bespak’s ability to respond to that need, bringing together an FDA-approved dry powder nasal device with our capabilities in formulation, development and commercial manufacturing. Our ambition is to help our customers unlock the potential of nasal delivery and bring more nasal drug breakthroughs to patients.”
