California-based startup Mosanna Therapeutics, which raised $80 million last year for clinical development of MOS118 nasal spray for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, said that results from a Phase 1 study support progression into a study in apnea patients. According to Mosanna, the MOSAIC trial has demonstrated that the intranasal potassium channel inhibitor was safe and well tolerated at all 4 dose levels tested in healthy volunteers.
According to Mosanna, MOS188 is a mucoadhesive microparticle suspension “designed to activate mechanosensitive afferent neurons throughout the nasal and upper airway, amplifying the negative pressure reflex that maintains upper-airway dilator muscle activity during sleep.” The next portion of the study is expected to enroll 24 patients with obstructive sleep apnea and will evaluate nightly doses of the nasal spray over 7 days.
