Copley Scientific introduces new inhaled dissolution dose collector

Copley Scientific has announced the launch of a new inhaled dissolution dose collector (IDDC) system for the collection of representative samples of particles from MDIs and DPIs for dissolution testing by USP Method 2. The system can collect the impactor sized mass or the fine particle dose, depending on the inlet used.

According to Copley, the IDDC works with standard inhaler testing equipment and a variety of inlets. Inlets that can be accommodated by the IDDC include the standard USP induction port, the Next Generation Impactor pre-separator, the Fast Screening Impactor housing/insert, and the Alberta Idealized Throat (AIT).

The sample is collected on a filter fitted into a detachable insert, and once the dose has been collected, the filter insert can be transferred to the paddle apparatus used for Method 2 dissolution testing. All parts that come in contact with dissolution media are made of stainless steel and compatible with a wide range of simulated lung fluids. After the dissolution testing is completed, the insert is replaced in the IDDC for collection of the next sample.

Copley has also recently introduced new branding, with the slogan “Innovative – Compliant – Trusted,” as well as a new logo and revamped web site. In its announcement of the rebranding effort, the company said that it expects to launch multiple new inhaler testing products over the next few months.
