DDL2019 to celebrate 30 years of Drug Delivery to the Lungs

Forbes and Haywood also note that a record number of young researchers submitted abstracts in competition for the Pat Burnell Young Investigator Award this year. The five finalists will present their work at the podium on the second day of the conference. One exception to the forward-looking program will be a session featuring past Pat Burnell Young Investigator Award winners, three of whom will provide updates on their work and how winning the award has affected their careers.

The winner of the DDL Emerging Scientist Award, now in its third year, will be announced during the meeting, when he or she will present a lecture at the podium. As with the Pat Burnell competition, the Emerging Scientist Award had a record number of submissions, Forbes notes, adding that, “The winner is an exciting, emerging talent who has been selected from a strong field of applicants by an independent panel of experts, and we are excited to hear about their research and career to date.”

Other invited talks include the DDL Lecture, which will be presented by Anthony Hickey, Director of the University of North Carolina Catalyst for Rare Diseases, who will discuss “Why we need to deliver large amounts of powder to the lungs and the concurrent challenges.” Two plenary talks will be offered: Gary Anderson of the University of Melbourne will speak about “Inhaled Biologics for Respiratory Disorders,” and Mona Bafadhel of the University of Oxford will address the question, “What’s the Story with Eosinophils in COPD so far?”

In addition to the gala dinner, networking opportunities include coffee breaks, meals, and evening receptions held in the poster and vendor exhibition areas. For the second year in a row, DDL is expected to feature approximately 110 companies exhibiting products and services.
