DDL 2018 in review

Omar Usmani presents the Pat Burnell Award to Sanketkumar Pandya

At the evening’s awards ceremony, conference vice chair Omar Usmani announced that the committee had selected Pandya as the winner of the Pat Burnell Award. Pandya was presented with a certificate. He also receives a £500 prize. Following the announcement of the Pat Burnell Award winner, DDL committee member Gerallt Williams of Aptar announced the academic and industrial poster prize winners, who each receive a certificate and a £250 prize.

In the academic poster category, the winner was Precious Akhuemokhan of King’s College London for her poster titled, “Developing Alternative Models for In Vitro Investigation of Excipient Influence on Drug Transport.” The industrial poster prize was awarded to Frans Franek of AstraZeneca for his poster on “Ranking In Vitro Dissolution of Orally Inhaled Drug Substance Powders in a Time-Efficient Manner.”

The new edition of Copley Scientific’s “Quality Solutions for Inhaler Testing” was a popular giveaway

Copley Scientific was handing out copies of the 2019 edition of its “Quality Solutions for Inhaler Testing,” which, in addition to information about the company’s products, serves as a useful reference with practical advice on testing all types of OINDPs. Copley also had on exhibit its BAC 2100 breath actuation controller fitted with an MDI actuation sensor, which is used for automated flow control during cascade impaction and delivered dose uniformity testing.

Astech Projects celebrated the launch of its Blister Strip Recovery Workstation, which automates piercing and washing of DPI blister pockets for improved accuracy and repeatability of sample preparation.

Novi Systems also exhibited a new nasal spray module that allows the use of its Vertus pMDI shake and fire systems for automated nasal spray testing,
