Iconovo appoints Mikael Ekström as VP of Development

Device developer Iconovo AB has announced the appointment of Mikael Ekström as its new VP, Development effective September 1, 2018. Ekström held various positions at AstraZeneca over a period of almost 30 years, most recently as Senior Director Inhalation Product Development.

Iconovo said that Ekström’s hire “is an important reinforcement of Iconovo’s organization ahead of the undertaking to developing more own products” and that he will focus especially on development of the ICOone unit dose DPI and inhaled vaccines.

Earlier this year, Iconovo announced a development deal with Japanese pharmaceutical company TOA for development of ICOone DPI products for the treatment of asthma and COPD.

Over the past year, the company has also announced deals for development of its other DPIs with Amneal, Intas, and the Stevanato Group.

Iconovo CEO Orest Lastow commented, “We are very pleased to get Mikael in our team. His many years of experience and expertise in the field of inhalation will of course be very useful when Iconovo is entering the next exciting phase.”
