Copley Scientific introduces new equipment for IVIVC testing

Copley Scientific has announced the introduction of a new air compressor, compressed air manifold, and automated compressed air flow controller for improved in vitro-in vivo correlation (IVIVC) testing of OINDPs.

The new equipment is designed to balance air flow through a test set-up with a breathing simulator coupled to a cascade impactor through a mixing inlet, with variable air flow through the inhaler being tested and a constant flow of air through the cascade impactor.

Copley Scientific Business Development Manager Anna Sipatanou commented, ‘Using a breathing simulator to investigate the impact of breathing profile on product performance enhances the value of cascade impaction in product development, bringing it closer to the clinical environment, but calls for precise air flow balancing through the test system. With manual control, fluctuations in the compressed air supply directly impact APSD data quality. These new products, when used with the TPK 2100 Critical Flow Controller, dramatically accelerate test set-up, at the same time ensuring that test conditions are both accurate and stable. The result is better quality data, with substantially less effort.’

The company said that it had also recently re-designed its Next Generation Impactor (NGI) cooler to accommodate a mixing inlet and an NGI cooler stand for accommodation of a breath simulator for improved IVIVC testing of nebulizers.
