PPD expands Athlone laboratory

PPD has added 4,300 sq ft to its GMP biopharmaceuticals and inhalation facility in Athlone, Ireland, the company has announced. The facility, which opened in 2010 and offers a wide range of formulation, development, and analytical testing services for MDIs, DPIs, nasal sprays, and inhalation solutions, is now more than 41,500 sq ft.

According to the company’s website, the facility is PPD’s fastest growing laboratory and has doubled the number of personnel over the past three years. With the expansion, the lab will employ 200 people.

PPD Executive VP of Global Laboratory Services David Johnston commented, “The expansion of the Athlone GMP lab represents our ongoing investment in the continued growth of our contract research operations in Ireland and around the world to provide our clients with best-in-class laboratory services and state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation. Our ability to deliver global scientific, technical and development expertise with expanded laboratory capacity enables us to meet the growing demand for these services in Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.”
