DDL celebrates its 25th anniversary with a look to the future

DDL 25 will take place December 10-12, 2014 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre

Twenty-five years after its first meeting in a Glaxo Group Research lecture theater, the Aerosol Society’s annual Drug Delivery to the Lungs conference marks its silver anniversary with DDL 25, taking place December 10-12 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Unlike the past few years, when symposia conducted by associated groups occupied the Wednesday morning slot, this year’s DDL will begin first thing on the morning of December 10.

According to DDL committee members Phil Haywood and David Harris, the extra time is necessary to accommodate the Silver Jubilee dinner, which will take place on the evening of December 11 in one of the EICC’s new banqueting suites. The dinner, which is complimentary for conference attendees, includes live entertainment, a drinks reception, three-course dinner, an “address to the haggis” and whisky toast. Aptar Pharma and Meggle have signed on as co-sponsors and additional co-sponsorship opportunities are still available.

DDL 25 will also mark the introduction of a new mobile app, sponsored by 3M Drug Delivery Systems, that is designed to optimize the DDL experience for approximately 500 attendees and 60 exhibitors. “3M Drug Delivery Systems is pleased to have the opportunity to support the DDL committee and sponsor the first DDL app for the conference,” says Louise Righton, Global Marketing Operations Manager; “I think the new app should add great accessibility to the inspiring activity of the DDL conference. It is a great addition to the sponsorship options and I’m sure will be well received by the audience.”

“A lot of the attendees at DDL, because it’s a non-profit conference, we tend to get some quite young people, and we’re looking to get more in touch with that population through technology like the new mobile phone app and through social media,” Harris says. Attendees will be able to download the app at no charge, and wireless access in the EICC will also be free.

“Rather than having to carry the program around,” he explains, “you’ll have it right at hand on your smart phone or tablet.” In addition to the program, the app will include an interactive map of the exhibition hall, lists of exhibitors and attendees, and local area information.
