Freeman offers new ebook with useful information for DPI developers

Powder characterization specialist Freeman Technology is offering a free 35-page downloadable booklet titled “An Introduction to Powders” that includes information particularly useful for development and optimization of dry powder inhalers, the company says.

Authored by Managing Director Tim Freeman, the book examines the interactions of particles with air and moisture for better understanding of powder behavior and represents “the first in a series that condenses the company’s expertise into accessible support for those faced with powder processing or formulation challenges.” The book can be read on both desktops and mobile devices.

Behaviors affecting DPI peformance cited by the company include the impact of fines content on fluidization of dry powder formulations and how the retention or release of entrained air affects the fine particle dose. The booklet also addresses powder properties that affect processes such as blending and capsule filling which are important to DPI optimization.

According to the company, “the new booklet . . . provides a valuable foundation for those with little prior knowledge of powders as well as being a useful resource for anyone looking to expand their understanding of the factors relevant to product development and processing performance.”
