DDL 23 — Day 2

Omar Usmani and Gary Pitcairn presented the Pat Burnell New Investigator Award to Martin Rowland

After a late afternoon paper session on “Advances In Analytical Science For Respiratory Products,” the delegates capped off the day at the cocktail reception sponsored by Aptar and Presspart and the presentation of all of the DDL 23 awards.

Martin Rowland was announced as the winner of the Pat Burnell New Investigator Award for his poster and talk on “The Bipolar Next Generation Impactor (bp-NGI) as a Tool for the Simultaneous Measurement of the Bipolar charge Distribution and Mass Quantification of Aerosols for Inhalation.” The industry poster award went to Alessandro Cavecchi of Novartis for his poster “The Key to Successful Electrostatic stabilization of HFA pMDI Suspensions,” and the academic poster award went to Jesslyn Ooi of the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research for her poster “Isothermal Calorimetry: A predictive tool to model drug-propellant interactions in pressurized metered dose systems.”

The Red Hot Chili Pipers entertained during the cocktail reception

In addition to drinks, the cocktail reception featured a buffet dinner and Scottish-themed entertainment, including a Scottish storyteller, a sword fighting demonstration by warriors decked out in kilts, and a band called the Red Hot Chili Pipers featuring bagpipes, drums, and electric guitar. Even after the band finished up, and thirteen hours after the second day of the meeting began, large numbers of delegates were still enjoying themselves at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
