Malvern launches new particle characterization system

Malvern Instruments has launched the Morphologi G3-ID particle characterization system, which combines Raman spectroscopy with particle imaging to provide simultaneous identification of particle size, particle shape, and chemical composition. According to the company, the system “is proving especially valuable are in determining component-specific particle properties of mixtures and blends, such as the particle size of drug ingredients in nasal sprays and asthma inhalers.”

Malvern says that the Morphologi G3-ID is simple to use, even for particle characterization scientists who have little previous experience with performing spectroscopy. The system includes an integrated dry powder dispersion unit, and it automatically images particles within a defined target area. Selection of particles for chemical identification can be done automatically based on size and shape, or the operator can manually select particles for analysis.
