Scientist

PPD is currently looking to recruit a Scientist to be based in our cGMP Lab in Athlone, Ireland. The basic purpose of the Scientist role is to perform a variety of complex sample preparation and analysis procedures to quantitatively measure pharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations. The Scientist is expected to follow validated or experimental analytical procedures with occasional direct supervision from a group leader. Following sample analysis, the Scientist is responsible for review and compilation of results. Our Scientists are expected to possess a more thorough understanding of laboratory procedures and can reliably conduct more complex analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Communicate effectively and follow detailed written and verbal instruction
• Cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment or work alone with supervision
• Manage time effectively to complete assignments in expected time frame
• Maintain a laboratory notebook and complete all documentation with clear and accurate language and according to the SOP
• Perform a variety of complex sample preparations
• Perform analysis procedures to quantitatively measure pharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations for stability testing and other studies for analytical testing support
• Perform work assignments accurately, timely and in a safe manner
• Train on routine operation, maintenance and theory of analytical instrumentation, SOPs, and regulatory procedures and guidelines
• Communicate project status to project leader
• Will plan and organize work with minimal supervision, interpret analytical data in regards to acceptability and consistency and set up and maintain analytical instrumentation
• Provides assistance and training to Associate Scientist
• Trouble shoots, either independently or with assistance, extraction and/or instrumentation problems
• Versatility to assist with sample management functions as necessary when establishing a new laboratory
• Perform additional tasks not defined in this profile as necessary when establishing a new laboratory.

Inhalation experience is a requirement for this role

Skills & Knowledge
• B.S/B.A. in Chemistry, or related field with relevant experience; experience as Associate Scientist or related experience (Preferred)
• M.S. in Chemistry, or related field with some relevant experience (Preferred)
• B.S./B.A. in Chemistry or related field with of 2 years experience in analytical testing laboratory
• Or Associate’s degree in laboratory science with substantial laboratory experience
• HPLC, GC, MS, Dissolution Testing, Inhalation Testing (Cascade Impaction, Dose delivery, Particle Size analysis), Biopharmaceutical Testing (ELISA, Gel Electrophoresis), Karl Fischer, UV-Vis, FT-IR, TOC
• Proficient in the use of analytical instrumentation, skills in separation science techniques (HPLC, GC and CE) are desired
• Proficient in sample extraction procedures
• Positive attitude and ability to work well with others
• Ability to write protocols and reports with minimum supervision
