Aptar introduces electronic dose counter and lockout for nasal sprays

Aptar Pharma is introducing two new eDevices, an electronic dose counter and an electronic lockout mechanism for nasal and sub-lingual spray pumps. The new devices can help products meet regulatory requirements for the delivery of controlled substances and are meant to help improve patient compliance.

According to the company, the e-Dose Counter features a large, easy-to-read display showing the number of doses remaining and can include feedback such as an acoustic warning or flashing display. The e-Lockout also counts and displays the number of actuations; after a certain number of actuations, the device locks automatically to prevent use for a period of time. Feedback and data transmission features can be incorporated.

Aptar Pharma VP eDevice R&D Joachim Koerner commented, “With all these innovative developments, Aptar Pharma is able to offer robust and cost-effective solutions for enhancing patient compliance. Smart devices will have an important role to play in integrated healthcare provider systems as these start to be deployed in the mid to long-term future.”
