Scientist / Senior Scientist Pharmaceutical Development

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced scientist to join the Pharmaceutical Development group at our early-stage pharmaceutical company to provide technical leadership and hands-on performance. The ideal candidate will have expertise in dry powder aerosols for pulmonary drug delivery, specifically in the areas of formulation development, particle engineering and physicochemical characterization of dry powders.

Duties include:

  • design, conduct and coordinate scientific studies to drive the development and 
    understanding of our dry powder technology platform;
  • perform pre-formulation, formulation and process development activities to support 
  • development projects; 
  • perform and coordinate testing of solid-based inhalation dosage forms for
    characterization of physical and chemical properties;
  • support formulation manufacture for development, preclinical and clinical studies;
    participate in the identification and evaluation of new technologies and product 
    opportunities;
  • generate pharmaceutical development reports;
  • participate in the development of the Pulmatrix intellectual property portfolio;
    maintain a comprehensive understanding and review of pertinent scientific literature.

Skills and attributes:

  • expertise in particle engineering and pharmaceutical formulations, with a particular
  • focus on pulmonary drug delivery;
  • in-depth knowledge of formulation development of aerosol products;
    excellent technical laboratory skills;
  • experience with spray drying, jet milling a plus; 
  • experience with DSC, TGA, DSC, DVS, XRPD, SEM, particle size measurements by
    cascade impaction and laser diffraction, dissolution methods a plus;
  • strong statistical background with knowledge of Design of Experiments (DoE) a plus;
  • reliable, self-motivated individual with positive attitude and demonstrated ability to design experiments and interpret data independently;
  • team-oriented with ability to work with junior and senior staff;
  • dedication to documentation and strong attention to detail;
  • strong oral and written communication skills;
  • ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks to meet tight timelines and
    shifting priorities;
  • willingness to work in a fast-paced, can-do environment;
  • desire for continued training and growth opportunities.

Education and experience:
M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field with 1-5+ years of relevant industry experience in biotech/pharmaceutical R&D.
