Project Leader – DDSD

3M Drug Delivery Systems Division partners with pharmaceutical and biotech companies to develop pharmaceuticals using 3M’s inhalation or transdermal drug delivery technology. 3M offers a full range of feasibility, development and manufacturing capabilities combined with regulatory guidance to help bring products to market. In-house resources, including toxicology, regulatory expertise, quality assurance, operations, and marketed product support, are available for each step of the development and commercialization process. This depth of resources is one reason why more than 50 percent of all metered-dose inhalers worldwide and 80 percent of all transdermal systems in the United States utilize 3M drug delivery technology.

The Inhalation Drug Delivery Project Leader will be working in the PuJiang Plant, Shanghai, China and will be responsible for the following duties:

Job Summary

Responsible for implementing the start up of a new 3M Drug Delivery Systems operation in China.  Coordinate with engineering department to build a new building dedicated to pharmaceutical manufacturing within the existing site.  With across multi-functional especially quality and regulatory to develop a manufacturing license for pharmaceutical products and receive GMP certification for the specific drugs manufacturing.  Identifies, recommends, initiates, and implements programs in manufacturing area of responsibility to improve and/or enhance: (1) product cost, service, & quality and, (2) process safety and health/environmental impact. Develops skills and techniques required to monitor and improve manufacturing processes and develops extensive knowledge to aid in advancement of manufacturing technologies. Provides product engineering support to marketed products and new product introductions.  Provide leadership and direction to production shift supervisors, technicians and operators  in their efforts to meet production schedules in alignment with customer service targets. Ensures adequate production staffing and oversees safety, cost & compliance requirements. Actively supports engineering process & product improvement projects. Additional responsibilities include training, staffing, employee communications, employee development, operator certification and cost control.  Involvement in developing operational and strategic plans for DDSD in China.

Basic/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Pharmaceutical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years combined experience in product/process engineering, production supervision and/or manufacturing technology engineering
  • English and Mandarin speaking
  • Working knowledge of cGMP/pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulations in China
  • Project management experience including equipment definition, design, installation, start-up and qualification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Aerosol or metered dose inhaler experience
  • Lean Six Sigma Experience
  • Experience with source of supply transfer projects
